Understanding the service

What is automotive color matching?

Automotive color matching involves determining the appropriate color and finish needed to complement an existing vehicle.

A factory paint code is an important starting point, but an existing vehicle's appearance can be affected by age, exposure, previous repairs and other factors.

Each project is evaluated individually. A perfect match cannot be guaranteed.

Factory information

Start with the paint code.

A factory paint code identifies the original color specification assigned to a vehicle. Providing it when available gives us an important reference for identifying the appropriate formula family and evaluating the project.

The code remains a starting point rather than a guarantee because the vehicle's present appearance may have changed over time.

Frequently asked

Color matching questions.

What is a factory paint code?

A factory paint code is an identifier assigned to a vehicle's original color specification. It helps identify the formula family used when the vehicle was produced.

Where can I find my paint code?

Its location varies by manufacturer and model. It may appear on a label in a door jamb, glove box, trunk, under the hood or within the vehicle information documentation.

Can you match an existing vehicle?

We can evaluate the vehicle, its paint code and its current appearance to determine an appropriate approach. Age, exposure, previous repairs and finish condition can affect how the existing color appears.

Can you color match plastic?

Many eligible automotive plastic components can be prepared and painted. The part material and condition must be evaluated first.

Can you paint a part I provide?

Yes, depending on the component, material and condition. Send clear photos and part information for evaluation.

Can you color match a replacement part?

Eligible replacement components can be evaluated for color-matched painting before installation.

Can you color match a custom part?

Many custom automotive components may be eligible. The part, intended placement and desired finish need to be reviewed first.
